The Story of a Winner

Stephen Hawking is a physicist and cosmologist. Known for being one of the most important physicists of today and also be a carrier of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a disease that paralyzes the muscles of the body.

Stephen William Hawking was born on January 8th 1942, exactly at the anniversary of 300 years of Galileo Galilei's death, at Oxford, which was considered a safe place for the birth of babies during the Second World War. His parents were Frank Hawking, one parasitologist and Isabel Hawking. As a child, he studied at St. Albans High School for Girls, was considered a good student, but not brilliant. Being a son of a scientist, Hawking aroused an interest in science early. Being a son of a scientist, Hawking aroused an interest in science early. According to his biography, he says it was a pleasure to study.

At 17, Stephen decided to enroll in mathematics at the University College, Oxford, in conflict with his father, who wanted him to study Medicine. As the course of Mathematics did not exist, he ended up opting for Physics. He graduated three years later, then doing a PhD in Cosmology at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. It was then that he began to show his potential.

But at age 21, he received the worst news of her life: Hawking was diagnosed with ALS, which paralyzes the muscles of the body, without reaching the brain and has no cure. Hawking uses a voice synthesizer to communicate due to a tracheotomy. Gradually, he is losing the movements of the arms and legs, including the strength to hold his head high. But the disease has not stopped Stephen Hawking. In prediction  of the doctors, he had months to live since he discovered the ALS, but surprising everyone, today he is 71 years old, married 2 times, has 3 children and 3 grandchildren, have experienced zero gravity and managed to simplify the physically more complex when writing A Brief History Of Time. Almost completely paralyzed, he uses the muscle of the cheek to power a sensor in his eyeglasses to send instructions to the computer. Besides teaching, he continues his studies (such as the Theory of Everything), lectures, writes articles, participates in the coordination of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at Cambridge University.

Between their researchs are: the study of black holes, increased the General Theory of Relativity of Einstein. Today, Hawking is the Lucasian Professor Emeritus, a position that was occupied by Isaac Newton. He is a member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences. And he helps to research the iBrain, a new system of communication

In interviews, Hawking said:'' I do not have much good to say about my illness, but she taught me not to pity myself and move on with what I could do. Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change. No matter how bad life may be, there is always something you can do and succeed. En as there is life there is hope.
